You guessed it: Event Four is a Grinder. Essentially, the strongest of will, mind, and body combined is going to win.
Mens' Rx: 40lbs (2 x 20lbs bags) carried any way possible for 400m; 10 pullups; 4 rounds for time.
Mens' Scaled 1 Class: 40lbs carried any way possible for 400m; 4 rounds for time.
Mens' Scaled 2 Class: 20lbs carried any way possible for 400m; 4 rounds for time.
Womens' Rx: 20lbs carried any way possible for 400m; 4 rounds for time.
Womens' Scaled 1 Class: 20lbs carried any way possible for 400m; 4 rounds for time.
Womens' Scaled 2 Class: 20lbs carried any way possible for 400m; 4 rounds for time.
Nothing technical here, just massive output of work. Therefore, practice using our sandbags is prohibited pre-Games to save wear and tear.
The course: Starting from the Catalyst parking lot, you'll pick up your bags and line up with your Class (not your flight from Events #1-3.) The leader of your class will begin at 3-2-1-GO! The person in second place in your Class will wait to begin until the difference in overall time has passed, and so on.
For instance, Sally enters Event #4 with a total time of 31:03, in first place in the Scaled 1 Division. Betty (of Barbell fame) enters in second at 32:05, and Barbie (never heard of her!) enters in third at 32:30. The competitors would line up, with Sally starting at 3-2-1-GO!, Betty starting the event 1:02 later, and Barbie starting 1:27 after Sally.
First to cross the finish line is winner of Catalyst Games 2009.
Order of flights:
Scaled 2 Women
Scaled 1 Women
Scaled 1 Men
Rx Women
Rx Men
Additional Rules: if you must drop one or both sandbags, you must circle behind the bag and reload before proceeding. Dragging is NOT allowed. Though the bags are 8x thicker than a normal garbage bag and doubled, they ARE plastic and subject to abrasion. Judges will be placed along the course; if your bag breaks through no fault of your own, you will be allowed to either restart the event with the next heat (Class) or run back, empty-handed, to retrieve a new one. If the bag is repairable on the spot, it must be done with a judge. You may NOT tie the sandbags together (thanks, Keith, for thinking of that right away!)
Mens' Rx class must drop their bags on the rubberized area when entering and exiting the pullup area, NOT the concrete.
If a bag breaks due to abuse by a competitor, they are responsible for returning to the pit area (carrying the other intact bag, if there is one) and hoisting a new bag, then re-starting the current lap.
