You and I, we're in the Opportunities game.
We're selling a chance. Support, for a journey. Sherpa service...maybe, even, towel service. But we're not selling the helicopter ride to the Summit.
We aren't selling answers. "How do I lose 30lbs?" - there's a SOLUTION to the problem, but no simple answer. A solution to the 30lbs may include mental coaching, diet, CrossFit, some family support, Bright Spots...but no single "Press This Button!" option.
Rather, we present opportunities: food intake is an opportunity. Exercise is an opportunity, and within that opportunity are other opportunities (which type? which place? how often?)
This is important, because your next new client is being bombarded by ANSWERS. If you've ever walked through a checkout line at Wal-Mart, you've seen them: "This SuperFood caused me to lose 5 pants sizes!" "The New Exercise That's 300% More Effective!" No one trusts people who give answers anymore, because they've heard it before, and it was a lie then, too.
Is CrossFit the answer to our problems as a species? No. Not every one. But it sure fills a lot of the gaps, doesn't it? And when those gaps are filled, well....the benefits spill over.
Too obscure? Here's an example: CrossFitters eat less corn syrup that most, because it makes us become hypoglycemic in the middle of "Michael." Not everyone chooses Paleo, but we're forced to THINK about what we eat, at the very least. The more we talk about Paleo and grains and corn syrup, the more we insert our bookmark into the conversation. No one disagrees, for instance, that our race should eat more vegetables. If we get 200 people eating more vegetables, we're bound to have at least one person in each Box who takes an interest in growing their own. THAT person will lead the conversation on ecology in your Box, and if they can share some lettuce with a few others....
One of the greatest ideas I've heard from a CrossFit Box (it was FirePower CrossFit) lately: one member offers garden space to anyone else in the Box. 10 feet by 10 feet - want it? It's all yours. Grow anything you like. Work the dirt, be rewarded. Bring your kids. That, friends, is a member-driven opportunity for valuing work, food, ecology, and community, and the opportunity became available because an Affiliate owner took a risk, once upon a time, and opened a CrossFit Box.
